Can The Authority control Kane?
Brie Bella and the entire WWE Universe looked on in horror last Monday night as Kane viciously assaulted Daniel Bryan with a sadistic succession of Tombstone Piledrivers. As a result, Bryan was diagnosed with a cervical cord neurapraxia — a contusion of the spinal cord — that could have put his WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign in jeopardy. Bryan was fortunately able to recover and has vowed to appear on this week’s Raw, where Stephanie McMahon plans to apologize for the heinous actions of The Devil’s Favorite Demon.
Although Stephanie seemed to protest Kane’s attack last week, is The Authority truly repentant? Or is Stephanie merely doing some “damage control” to save face? Regardless, it will be interesting to see if The Authority is able to extinguish the wildfire they’ve started — or if they intend on letting it burn everything in its path.
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Kane
At Extreme Rules, Kane trades in his dress shirt and dons the mask he wore as The Devil’s Favorite Demon to take on WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan at Extreme Rules.
For months, the Director of Operations aided the machine known as The Authority in preventing Bryan’s ultimate coronation as champion. The corporate 7-footer cost Bryan his chance at striking title gold on several occasions, and it almost became an inevitability that the Director of Operations would interfere in a Daniel Bryan match in some form. By getting the better of his former Team Hell No partner in singles and tag team competition, the “Yes!” Man used Kane as a stepping stone to petition for a main event opportunity at WrestleMania 30.
Stephanie McMahon berated Kane on the April 14 episode of Raw for his inability to curtail the bearded Superstar’s stunning ascent and goaded her employee to let out his inner demon by presenting him with the mask that once struck fear in the hearts of Superstars. The plan evidently worked, as The Big Red Monster reappeared with his mask on the following night, shockingly brutalizing Big Show with the ring steps. Having again revived the extreme side of his imbalanced personality, Kane will attempt to “eviscerate” the “Yes!” Man and send him tumbling down into the fiery depths of hell.
Kane didn’t wait until Extreme Rules to start his warpath. On Bryan’s first time back on Raw since marrying WWE Diva Brie Bella, Kane went on a rampage a la a Michael Myers movie, terrorizing the newlyweds and leaving Bryan in tatters following a series of vicious Tombstones.
The keys to victory in the upcoming contest may be found in the two Superstars’ clash of styles, not to mention the lawless framework of the Extreme Rules Match format. Kane will have his demonic power and unbridled rage to his advantage, while Bryan brings superior quickness and speed-based maneuvers, including the running knee that has found its target quite frequently in recent months.
Can Daniel Bryan finally close the book on his nemesis and put The Authority in his rear view? Or will the mask re-energize Kane to make Bryan’s title reign a short one? Find out when Extreme Rules streams on WWE Network on May 4 at 8 p.m. ET/5 PT!
Stephanie McMahon might not have created a monster when she goaded Kane into embracing his darker side last Monday night, but she definitely brought it out of hiding. Donning the mask that’s been associated with some of sports-entertainments’ most nightmarish acts, WWE’s diabolical Director of Operations savagely assaulted Big Show after WWE Main Event went off the air last Tuesday night on WWE Network, proving that The Devil’s Favorite Demon had truly returned.
With a bone-chilling mission to demolish Daniel Bryan on The Authority’s behalf, what havoc will The Big Red Monster unleash on the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion?
The Shield vs. Kane & The New Age Outlaws
Since being hired as Director of Operations by The Authority, the always volatile Kane has struggled at times to act in a manner befitting an impartial administrative figure. When challenged, he has often unleashed Big Red rage on any Superstars who refused to respect the rule of WWE COO Triple H & Stephanie McMahon. And now that The Shield has stopped following the company line, The Devil’s Favorite Demon will partner with The New Age Outlaws at The Showcase of the Immortals to attempt to put The Hounds of Justice in their place.
In a little more than a year’s time, the black-clad trio of Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins & United States Champion Dean Ambrose has laid waste to the likes of The Undertaker, The Rock, Daniel Bryan and Big Show. All the while, their unique brand of justice has often brought them into an unspoken alliance with The Authority along the way. However, after infighting and jealousy caused The Hounds to suffer heartbreaking defeats to The Wyatt Family, an intense “Shield Summit” on SmackDown brought Reigns, Rollins & Ambrose into a renewed unity that would spell destruction for anyone in their path — including, as it turned out, high-ranking Authority brass.
When Kane began talking down to The Shield and order them to administer beat downs to Big Show and Jerry Lawler respectively, the triumvirate refused to comply, instead turning their assault on the Director of Operations.
In response, Kane enlisted the services of the six-time Tag Team Champions, The New Age Outlaws, to help deliver a retaliatory strike to The Shield during a WWE Tag Team Title No. 1 Contenders Fatal 4-Way Match. It’s hard to ignore that Road Dogg & Billy Gunn have longstanding ties with The Authority’s Triple H, which date back to their days of running roughshod over Superstars as part of DX.
Will the Attitude Era stalwarts make The Shield regret ever crossing their “Authority”? Or will The Hounds of Justice prove on The Grandest Stage of Them All that, when united, the WWE Universe is indeed still their yard? Find out when WrestleMania 30 airs live on WWE Network, Sunday April 6!
Will Kane make a ‘giant’ statement in SmackDown main event?
After receiving a massive KO Punch from Big Show in tag team action last week on SmackDown, WWE Director of Operations Kane will look for retribution tonight when he goes one-on-one with The World’s Largest Athlete – a clash between two of WWE’s biggest, most decorated and most explosive Superstars.
Big Show will certainly look to continue his surging momentum following two huge tag team victories alongside Daniel Bryan in the past week. Since The Beard seems to be public enemy No. 1 for The Authority these days, will Kane have extra “corporate” motivation to drop the giant who knocked him out last week?
Release the Hate
So Kane’s got Bray Wyatt in a Ring of Fire at SummerSlam in a bout that’s set to take both Superstars, quite literally, to the edge of hell itself. But while the backwoods preacher Wyatt has certainly proven himself as sinister a Superstar WWE has ever seen, Kane is coming off one of the more balanced years of his career, if not his life. Just a year ago, he was dipping his toes into anger management with Daniel Bryan and as of last month, hugging it out wasn’t entirely off the table for The Devil’s Favorite Demon just yet. Can Kane rediscover his old, sadistic ways in time? And even if so, will it be too little, too late?
Kane vs Bray Wyatt
Since making their frightening debut on the July 8 episode of Raw, the menacing Wyatt Family has had their sights set on Kane, brutally assaulting him on two separate occasions. Now, at SummerSlam on Sunday, Aug. 18, The Devil’s Favorite Demon will get a chance at long-awaited vengeance when he goes one-on-one with Bray Wyatt inside a “Ring of Fire.”
Since he was dismantled in The Wyatt Family’s devastatingly memorable unveiling — which resulted in a visit to the local trauma center and kept him out of the All-Stars Money in the Bank Ladder Match at last month’s pay-per-view — Kane has clearly been the focus of the unsettling trio’s fury. Wyatt, along with his vicious sycophants Erick Rowan and Luke Harper, addressed The Devil’s Favorite Demon in between pulverizing R-Truth, Justin Gabriel and 3MB in recent weeks.
The Wyatt Family then again assaulted Kane when The Big Red Machine made his return from injury on the July 29 episode of Raw. Although Kane fought back fiercely, they once again left him downed, and the treacherous trio followed the mauling with a repetition of Wyatt’s ominous, foreboding message to the former WWE Champion: “Follow the buzzards.”
Although it’s unclear exactly what the sermonizing Wyatt meant, it’s apparent the buzzards’ trail is now leading to a massive collision between the deranged newcomer and Kane at The Biggest Party of the Summer. And the much-anticipated battle – which marks Wyatt’s first match in WWE and Kane’s 11th SummerSlam appearance – promises fireworks – or, more appropriately, hellfire.
Few Superstars have the physical ability to contend with a 7-foot tall, 300-pound-plus behemoth, let alone one as experienced and decorated as Kane. Wyatt, however, is nearly 300 lbs. in his own right and has shown in his time at NXT that along with his remarkable power, he has the agility and athleticism of a man half his size.
Then, there are always the massive and ruthless Rowan and Harper waiting in the wings. If Kane is able to deal with the imposing Wyatt, as he has with many of WWE’s greatest Superstars over his storied career, he will likely still have that dangerous and passionately devoted duo to contend with.
Will Kane get fiery vengeance on his puzzling pursuers? Or, will “The Eater of Worlds” and his followers once again leave The Big Red Monster in a heap? Find out on Sunday, Aug. 18, when SummerSlam airs live on pay-per-view.
By order of WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon, the ultra-intense Ryback will join forces with WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No to battle The Shield at WWE TLC — in a match that could prove to be the ultimate showdown of pure destruction the like of which the squared circle has not seen in some time.
The stage was originally set for WWE Champion CM Punk to go one-on-one with Ryback, putting the illustrious title he’s held for more than a year on the line in a Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match against the eternally hungry No. 1 contender.
That all came to a crashing halt, however, on the Dec. 3 edition of Raw when Ryback put The Second City Saint through a table. Less than 24 hours later, Punk would undergo surgery for the injury (FULL STORY), putting the titleholder on the shelf temporarily and leaving a huge void in the upcoming pay-per-view picture.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances that will hold up a Punk vs. Ryback showdown, the match that Mr. McMahon announced via an official statement was, in a way, fate (READ MR.MCMAHON’S STATEMENT). After all, in a pay-per-view dedicated to pain and unpredictability, who better to headline the event than six Superstars hell-bent on complete and utter destruction?
For weeks now, the combination of Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins have been running wild, launching seemingly unwarranted attacks on competitor after competitor in the name of “justice.” Through it all, three of their favorite targets have been none other than Ryback, Daniel Bryan and Kane.
In fact, the first time the trio assaulted Ryback at Survivor Series, it effectively cost him the WWE Title and left him hungry for retribution. “Feed [him] more!” (PHOTOS)
The Shield assaulted the dangerous WWE Tag Team Champions on both the Nov. 26 and Dec 3 editions of Raw, allowing the previously reluctant partners to find a whole new reason to be unified. When Kane & Bryan sought retribution against the mysterious trio, it was Ryback who emerged to add to their cause. (WATCH)
Ryback represents the perfect force-of-nature to take on the brutal faction. Since he emerged in WWE last year, the furious Superstar unleashed a non-stop onslaught on everyone in sight. And no one can dispute Kane & Bryan as two of the most ruthless competitors on the roster today.
But as intimidating as they are, time will tell whether it will be enough to overcome their virtually unknown adversaries who have shown, time and time again, they are capably of strategic anarchy. Find out who will emerge victorious when Ryback and Team Hell No lock horns with The Shield at WWE TLC — Sunday Dec. 16 at 8/5 PT, only on pay-per-view.
Is AJ playing with fire?
The sneaky smile on AJ’s face as Kane carried her away may have spoken volumes about where her heart really lies. The unbalanced Diva shared another stunning kiss with The Big Red Monster at No Way Out, then later wound up helping WWE Champion CM Punk win the Triple Threat Match by interfering as Kane had control of the battle. Is AJ actually attracted to Kane? Or is she just toying with The Big Red Monster? And if the latter is the case, will Kane torment AJ and make her regret using him as a pawn in the bizarre love triangle?
The love triangle from hell
Who’s playing who? Who, exactly, is AJ smitten with, if anybody? Is she in love with any of the three competitors in the Triple Threat WWE Title Match at No Way Out or just trying to back a winning horse? The WWE Universe thought this was a personal matter between CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Kane, but AJ’s involvement – spurned by Bryan, possibly infatuated with Punk and now lurking behind Kane in the backstage area – has given this contest a “Fatal Attraction”-vibe that has the WWE Universe on edge. What will happen on the final Raw when all potential champions (and suitors) are in the ring at the same time before No Way Out?
The last line is the most intriguing bit of it all. It seems we’ll be getting a segment with all of them, and possibly, AJ. If anything, this will probably end up being an in-ring segment with Cole or some sort.
